OM Art Designs is so named to represent the creative force behind human expression. The word OM gives voice to the vibrational sound of God.
Its melody invokes the presence of the divine and is the inspiration for the botanical artistry of Olivia Marie Braida-Chiusano, founder and director.
Ms. Braida (pen name O.M. Braida) is an award winning Certified Botanical Artist whose “precise botanicals,” the New York Times praised as “realism amplified” and whose work Suzanne White, curator of the South Florida Museum, declares as “classical design immersed in shadows and light….compositions of the highest professional level pay homage to the great masters.”
Two original works of Ms. Braida’s have been acquired by the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation in Pennsylvania and by the South Florida Museum in Florida (“Magnolia grandiflora ‘Little Gem’ #2, and Nelumbo ‘Baby Doll’ respectively). Both are now part of their permanent collections. She exhibits in museums, gardens, galleries, universities, and with horticultural societies.
As founder and principal instructor of the Academy of Botanical ArtSM Ms. Braida has developed a network of Certified Academy Instructors who carry on the tradition of her teachings based on the instructional book series on botanical art she authored. Her book series entitled “Ten Steps, A Course in Botanical Art & Illustration” and her series of ”Academy Course Paks” are available to both the beginner and the advanced student – to the dabbler or one who seeks to fully develop their skills in this genre. The Academy offers a Botanical ArtSM and Illustration Certificate Program that was originally created by Ms. Braida for the Ringling College of Art and Design,
Continuing Studies Department in 2002 and has graduated many students from this program who carry on a professional Artists. Currently the Academy through the auspices of the prestigious Marie Selby Botanical Gardens awards certification to students who successfully complete the program.
Additionally, the Academy of Botanical ArtSM offers local and distance learning. The Academy’s distance learning program has students throughout the U.S.A.,
Canada, United Kingdom, Mexico, South America, Australia and is continually growing. She is the founder and president emeritus of the Florida Society of Botanical Artists
(a chapter of the American Society of Botanical Artists). She lives in Florida with her husband.
